Studio Build and Reveal

The blog post I have been so eagerly waiting to post. And a long time coming. In the spring of 2021 we were given an old garage that was moved out from the city. My neighbours had it on their property and used it to keep their lambs warm in the winter time. They decided they no longer had use for it, so my husband was going to make it into an extra garage. After a whole lot of sweet talking, I convinced him to let me have it as a photography studio. A very unrealistic budget and a lot of work later, I finally have my very OWN photography studio. It was a very long process with materials and labour being in high demand. We poured the concrete, moved the garage onto the pad and slowly picked away at it. We did the majority of the work ourselves, with the help of our amazing family and friends. The longest process was waiting on the overhead garage door. We were given an estimated date of 4 months but it took closer to 10 months to arrive. Which put a halt in our timeline but the wait was worth it. Because it’s exactly what I wanted.

Below I am sharing a few process pictures I had on my phone from start to finish. We sourced a bunch of materials second hand such as the smaller side door, windows and the siding actually came off my parents house still in great condition. It was such a long, tedious process but I am forever grateful for all the heart work and love. that went into this space. I still have so much to do to the exterior such as pouring a concrete pad outdoors, painting the side door (HELP ME PICK A COLOUR?!?!) and make some flower beds outside the space. But as I am starting to use the space, I am so in love with it!

Here is a reveal of the space all finished inside. Of course as the time passes and I use the space, I will probably change things around but having my own space to offer to my clients without the studio rental fee is so amazing. I am planning to keep the floor raw concrete as I love the style of that. I am also contemplating putting in a brick wall! I am loving the seamless backdrops right now though!

Thank you so much for visiting and sharing in this studio journey with me. I always. envisioned a space I could collaborate, connect and create with all of you in. And that time is finally here. A space flooded with beautiful natural light, thriving plants and amazing energy. I hope to see you in my studio one day soon!
